Seven on Seven pairs seven leading artists with seven visionary technologists, and challenges them to make something new — an artwork, a prototype, whatever they imagine. On Saturday, April 22 at the New Museum in New York City, and live online here at SevenonSeven.art, the pairs will unveil their creations.

Seven on Seven is presented by Rhizome. This website is a collaboration with .ART, launched on the occasion of Seven on Seven 2017.

Ai Weiwei & Jacob Appelbaum
Panda-to-Panda

With artist Ai Weiwei unable to travel outside of China, and Jacob Appelbaum (a lead Tor Project and Wikileaks member) advised not to enter the US, this Seven on Seven pair met under unique circumstances at the artist's studio in Beijing. Over the course of two days they made the collaborative artwork Panda-to-Panda, comprised of twenty toy pandas from which the stuffing was removed and replaced with shredded Snowden documents and an SD card (contents unknown, supplied by Appelbaum). Oscar-winning filmmaker Laura Poitras documented the duo and her film The Art of Dissent, published by the New York Times, tells the story.
